Reviews:

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Fabulous tablet PC!
I have been tracking the tablet PC market for many time and I think the HP Pavilion TX2510US is one of the best.

Pros:

High quality Wacom ‘Penabled’ tablet hardware

Supports pen pressure and has an eraser.

Good Fingerprint Reader module

Great software bundle, e.g. Corel Painter 4 Essentials and Microsoft OneNote 2007.

Cons:

12.1 inch screen may be a tad small for some

Bit slower compared to other models may be caused by AMD processor. it is slower than the Intel Core 2 Duo.

Glossy screen may not suit many users.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Good, cheap tablet PC for artists on a budget.
I bought this computer mainly for doing digital artwork. If I had not obliged to replace my laptop, I could just have gotten a Cintiq, but looked into Tablet PCs as a compromise. I did a just total of research before settling on this computer, as well as reading the last reviews here. Here are my thoughts.

1. It does run a bit hot, but, there are many useful merchandise out there to increase ventilation and in many cases actively cool the laptop with fans. I find a simple item that raises the laptop and lets airflow underneath it works perfectly.

2. The glossy screen takes many to get used to, but most tablet PCs are going to have one because they are harder to damage and easier to clean than a matte screen. An anti glare screen protector does wonders both for decreasing the glare and “grainy” effect, also as offering extra protection against the stylus scratching the screen. The screen is great for watching movies, however.

3. it will need many configuring for smooth performance. First, the default performance settings are awful. Before I figured that out, the computer could lag and freeze when doing anything more intensive than web browsing. Second, there’s many of bloatware installed by HP. many things are really useful but mots of it is unecessary and runs automatically, hogging resources. Third, there was many of crazy unecessary stuff in the registry. many of it was info from bloatware I removed, but most of it seemed to be outdated windows updates and references to nonexistent files and folders. After doing these things, it runs beautifully.

4. I favored XP, but Vista is not too bad. Though it has many funny quirks, like asking you to support or cancel installations from such “unidentified publishers” as Microsoft :

5. This tablet pc is Wacom Penabled. This was essential to me because I meant to use this PC for artwork. There are other comparably priced touchscreen/tablet PCs by HP with better in general specs, but, they are not penabled, which means no pressure sensitivity. The pressure sensitivity is 256 levels of pressure sensitivity, about equal to a Wacom Graphire tablet. do not buy this expecting it to be equal to drawing on a Cintiq, which as over 1,000 levels. All this really offers is the capability to draw right on the screen. The stylus that comes with the laptop appears to be penabled as it has pressure sensitivity capabilities. but, the wacom penabled stylus I bought independently looks to be more responsive.

6. Pay close attention for any pieces of paper in the package that say “Important: Read This First”. I didn’t, and spent many number of hours on the phone with HP’s buyer support which leaves much to be desired, before fixing the problem.

Overall, I am happy with it. There are surely more powerful tablet PCs available. This one fit my price range and has been confirmed as penabled.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars Good, but Fragile Tablet
I work in a school district and we bought 60 of these and gave one to each of our freshmen. they are good little fast machines, and worked well. But, the screen on them is fragile. I have had a high of these come back with broken screens compared to the other models that we have given out to students. The only way to have the screen fixed is to send it back to HP and pay $419. be sure you have an accidental damage policy on this, and do not get this for someone who is going to be rough with it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Solution to Heat and Noise
I am not a kid, just do not want my name to show.

If you want this laptop to stop making heat and stop the fan from turning on do this:

Click on the Battery Charge Icon in the lower right corner. choose Power Saver mode. Click “more power options”. Under “Power Saver” click “Change Power Settings”. Then in the new window click “Advanced Power Settings” > “Processor Power Management”. Set both minimum processor state to 5 and Maximum processor state to 10 15you can set it to 5 Click OK.

Click on the Battery Charge Icon in the lower right corner again. be sure Power Saver mode is selected. This will keep the fan off and the laptop will not heat up, while working fast for browsing the internet, reading PDFs or most other tasks. If you have to run games or watch video just choose the HP suggested setting .

Another tip: you may be able to get many anti glare film from ebay for about $15, it will work with touch screen. And as well, at the top right of Internet Explorer there’s a Panning Hand that you may be able to use to pan iternet pages with your finger without the scroll bar, it took me 2 months to find it.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars Nice laptop but big flaws
I bought this and totally loved it! but, about two weeks in and the screen vertical switch stopped working. Then, about a week after the screen could just get colorful and choose to restart the computer if it was not frozen from the screen glitch…making me have to do a hard re start..it never bothered to save my document/s I worked on. i could expect an auto shutdown at least once a day without warning or backing up of whatever I worked on I am sure this is an OS issue but It surely turned me off…I called HP support many times and gave remote access to which I was told it was “fixed” and OS was good but restarts still occurred. as well, laptop runs hot! I could have to shield myself from serious ache I do not think about myself too fragile a personwere I to use it more than say 30min on my lap….also somewhat deafening with the fan blowing all that heat out. I ordered from staples and it was to come with bluetooth and I could never get it to work and had to buy an external adapter to use my bluetooth accessories. I have had HP laptop since I have had laptops and I was disappointed in all the faults and problems I had with what was to be my “upgrade”.
